SAGARIGA SHG, KUREEKKAD, MULANTHURUTHY BLOCK

Sagariga SHG is a group of women reisding in Chottanikkara Grama Panchayat, (Ward XIII). This group started in 11/97 and contains 13 members and all are came from BPL family. There are 12 SC members and one other caste member. All are educated and minimum standard of SSLC. The President of this group is Suvarna Saji and Secretary Rajamma Raju. All the members got training in coir making and they are interested to start a coir making unit. Their Thrift deposit is 29054/-. The unit hgave passed the first grading and got RF worth Rs.25000/- from Vijaya Bank, Chottanikkara Branch.
In 2005-06, the 2nd grading of the unit completed and availed 200300/- for starting a coir making unit. The loan amount is Rs.134300/- sanctioned from the Vijaya Bank Chottanikkara Branch and subsidy worth Rs.66000/-. All are experienced in coir making. Before giving assistance their living condition is very poor and they depend mostly in agriculture sector for their livelyhood. After getting loan they had started a coir making unit. They have four machines (Ratt) for producing coir. After buying the Ratt the production of coir is very easily and more profitable. Before availing loan, they produced coir products mannually. Average income through mannual coir work is very low compared to machine production.
After machanisations, coir making is more profitable job. Before giving assistance they could purchase small quantity of rawmaterials and produce small quantity of products. After getting assistance they can purchase the rawmaterials bulk and produce large quantity of coir.. The loan amount of Rs.134300/- is being repaid promptly. The monthly loan installnment is fixed Rs.4355/- . They had repaid the loan amount of Rs.61071/- upto 29.5.2007. Loan out standing as on 29.5.2007 is Rs.149237/-. Each members of this group get Rs.2000/- as monthly net income from this unit. Ie. The group earned Rs.26000/- as income per month.
Briefly speaking, this group functioning very well and all are engaged in the production of coir making. All the members of this group have sincerely co-operate in their functioning. As such the unit have become a viable SGSY Project through sustainable income.
