The success story of Devamatha Self Help Group bears testimony to the fact that united strength, love and mutual trust can be utilized for the good of individual and the society.
Devamatha Self Help Group was formed by the women of eleven families in Kaloor area of Kalloorkadu Grama Panchayat in Muvattupuzha Block. It was the Lady Village Extension Officer Ms.Jancy Issac who gave the requisite guidelines for the group. The group started its functioning by holding weekly meetings and opening up small-scale savings. They opened an SB account in the Federal Bank, Kaloor Branch and deposited their savings there at. The group lends money to its members for their various ventures. Rectifying the fondling problems and by making repayments without default, the group paved way for its first grading.
The limited savings could be used for some urgent needs only. So the members realized that they should take up some new venture that would enhance their income and in turn their standard of life. The group could secure ‘A’ grade in the first grading conducted on it on 27th January, 2004. As a result, it was granted Rs.50,000/- as revolving fund. The group decided to start a new venture, utilizing these funds.
Kaloor is an area that encourages people engaged in animal husbandry. In our times, the consumption of milk produce is on the rise. Realizing these facts, the group decided to start goat rearing. The success the group achieved in this venture buoyed the spirits of the members and this was transformed into their households.
In 2005 January, the group secured ‘A’ Grade in the 2nd grading conducted. Brimming with confidence, the group took a decision to start dairy units. The group stood to benefit a lot from the two day camp on ‘Animal Husbandry’ conducted by Muvattupuzha Block Panchayat. For the successful running of the venture, the Federal Bank granted a loan of Rs.2,61,000/- to the group of this, Rs.69,940/- is the subsidy given by the Block.
Now, the members of the group can well manage to make their both ends meet. Before the formation of the group, it was the days of hardship and misery for them. Besides these Devamatha SHG could spread among the people the idea of Self Help Group and its many benefits.
