SAGA OF THALIPPARA

As the bus was running slowly through hilly road my mind was getting excited by the sights. Bus reached “Mamalakandam”-a place which is densely populated with small and marginal farmers. Many of them are BPL families. After a turning at Pazhampillychal, the place where earthquake took place long ago, the bus was running fast and reached at Chamappara at 11.30 AM. Sri: Gopinathan was waiting for me there He is the secretary of Nethaji SHG consisting 14 Members. Two of the members are belongs to scheduled tribes .The SHG has a Thrift Account with the UBI, Neriyamangalam. After completing the 1st grading with 158 marks The SHG has got loan for Rs: 40000/-and SGSY subsidy of Rs. 10000/-as Revolving fund. The SHG members collect forest products including honey and sell in the market at Muvattupuzha, a nearby town.
The pass book of the SHG showed a balance of Rs.120000/-as savings in the thrift account. The President reported that it includes profit from the business.
After successful completion of 2nd grading, the Group has formulated a project to make sheet rubber from raw latex. Accordingly a Project Report for Rs.500000/-submitted to bank and requested the eligible subsidy from SGSY. An amount of Rs.375000/- has been sanctioned as loan and the subsidy of Rs.125000/- from the scheme. Now the SHG has started the project by collecting rubber stain from the farmers. They are earning more income from this group activity. Their unity and hard work made them prosperous. Now the SHG has purchased 5 cents of land so as to enable them to extend their activities. A work shed which is allotted by Block is now on completion.
The Kuttampuzha Grama Panchayath is witnessing such a glorious saga of Nethaji SHG in these days.
