KARUNA SHG –PAINGOTTOOR - A PROSPEROUS STORY OF UNITY.

On the occasion of visiting the SGRY work site at Manipara a remote village of Paingottoor Panchayath. During the first week of March 2003, The VEO Kadavoor met two labours at the work site Sri.Jaimon& Sri. Abraham. They are very poor and engaged in rubber tapping and other agricultural activities. They are struggling to manage the expenses like food, medicine educational expenses etc. They explained their hazards to the VEO and he visited their houses .The VEO explained about the SGSY scheme implemented through BPL families. They became interested and decided to form a SHG. On the next Sunday itself they conducted a meeting of the interested labours at Jaimon`s house
On the light of the explanation by the VEO & Ward member they decided to form a Self Help Group. Accordingly Karuna SHG has been formed and elected Sri.Jaimon and Sri.Abraham as President and Secretary respectively. After that they opened an a/c with UBI Kadavoor. (A/C No.5521)on16/03/03.This Group conducted meeting regularly and prepared all the registers and other records .As the planned activities they have passed 1st grading on 19/08/04 by obtaining 141 marks. At this time their cash savings was Rs.25600/-.They have obtained Rs.40000/-from bank and Rs.10000/-as subsidy from Block. After that they started a milk collecting and sales centre in a rented room. Now they were collecting milk from all the 13 members and other local farmers.
After passed the second grading on 25/08/06 they got loan Rs.250000/- from the bank and subsidy of Rs.125000/-from SGSY. for the cultivation of pineapple in3.5 acres and paddy in2.5 acres of leased land.
Now all the members of the Group are very confident and optimistic. Now they have got courage to face the problems especially financial problems in day today life. This great achievement attracts other poor families in Paingottoor Pachayath to select a prosperous way to success.
