Gramasree SHG Naduvattom is mainly engaged in the production of traditional kerala food “PAALAPPAM”. They are producing it in low cost without compromising the quality, and the cost-effective production make them good competitors in the market and their high quality product captures consistent demand in the market. They also potrayed their succus story in vegetable cultivation in leased land, candle manufacturing etc. In all these fields they showed their professional approach and repeated the grand success.
PROFESSIONAL SATISFACTION (Hygenic production unit)
ABOUT THE GROUP
The people of Naduvattom mainly engaged in agriculture and agriculture is the back bone of the economy of the area. Majority of the females of the region are unemployed. Unemployed women of the area planned a creative self-employment and under the proper guidance of officers of Block Development office, they formed a Self-help group in the name GrameSree. They conducted weekly meetings on Sundays and elected Mrs. Kochuthressia as President of SHG, and started a Bank account for the group. They managed to consolidate the thrift amount at the initial stage itself deposited it in the bank. From the first stage itself they showed positive traits and this quality made them good professionals in the market. They strategies are conductive to the present market conditions and they got a clear edge in the fields in which they engaged because of their high quality products and professionalism.
TO THE SUCCUSS TOGETHER.
The first grading of the SHG was done on January 2002. Revolving fund of Rs.25000/- has been sanctioned from SCB Malayattoor-Neeleswaram out of which Rs.10000/- was subsidy portion from Angamaly Block. The SHG succeded in large scale vegetable cultivation and they supplied it in the market properly. The review meeting and supports from Block Development Office boosted their confidence levels.
The SHG has undergone IInd grading on July 2005, in which they proved their capacity to launch a new venture, taking new challenges. Under the assistance from Block Development office, especially from the Joint BDO(RSE) Mr. P.Sivan they prepared the draft of a Palappam( A traditional kerala Food) manufacturing unit and Candle manufacturing unit. Their smart projects got sanction from Block Panchayath and by the recommendation from Block Panchayath they got a loan of 225000/- from SCB Neeleswaram, and they got 75000/- from Block Panchayath under SGSY.
PLEASURE OF WORK(CANDLE MANUFACTURING UNIT)
By carefully analyzing the success story of this SHG we can make some conclusions. They are highly inspired from the beginning itself, and Officers of Block development Office boosted their confidence level and this made them to make a cake walk to the sucuss.
Secondly timely guidance from Block panchayath made them aware of the avenues and possibilities and this awareness made them to make a proper planning and for making a smart strategy for the business. We can make more SHG’s like this by making constant efforts and by making awareness programmes in rural areas. This is the effective way to make this Government Scheme to reach the apex aims on which it has been formulated.

The consistent functioning of the SHG made positive impact on the members and each member is now earning about Rs.2000/- per month, after all repayments and expenses. Also it has affected the economy of the area upto some extent and they gained the support of public and local self government institutions. Here the SGSY poverty reduction programme has became very effective and successful by the combined efforts of SHG members and Block Panchayath, and by literally this SHG proved that this Government Programme is effective for the alleviation of poverty and improving the status of rural women.PLEASURE OF WORK(CANDLE MANUFACTURING UNIT)
