GRAMA JYOTHI VANITHA SHG THIRUVANKULAM, MULANTHURUTHY BLOCK

Ten women members of 10 BPL families of Thiruvankulam Grama Panchayat had decided to form a Self Help Group to meet their day to day financial needness. On 3.3.2000, they organised themselves as a group and named as Grama Jyothi Vanitha SHG. They had opened a SB Account in the name of President and Secretary of the SHG at South Indian Bank, Thiruvankulam and conducted regularly meeting on every Monday for thrift collection and to sanction credit among members. The whole activities of this group is being controlled by the Block Panchayat authorities and the field level functionaries of Block Office. The group was undergone 1st grading as per the norms of SGSY and sanctioned RF Rs.25000/- as cash credit facility to enhance their financial management capacity. In the meanwhile they got an idea for a catering service. After procuring necessary equipments, catering service was started. They got good response for this activity. The idea to expand this project is discussed with the Block Development Officer, Village Extension Officer and Block Panchayat for which a detailed project report was drawn and placed before the South Indian Bank, Thiruvankulam as a model SGSY project with a total out lay of Rs.250000/-. In addition to the catering service, project for Ironing of cloths had also attached with the main project, This additional activity helped them more for engaging all of the group members in one or other activity.
The Manager, South Indian Bank, Thiruvankulam had sanctioned the project and disbursed the loan on 28.3.2005. Now a days the Project is running very smoothly and all group members are earning a net monthly income of above Rs.2500/-. The repayment of loan is very prompt. This project is considered as one of the model SGSY unit of Mulanthuruthy Block Panchayat.
