BEAUTY PARLOUR, MULANTHURUTHY BLOCK

Smt.Mini Appu was a trainee under TRYSEM which was a component of erstwhile IRDP and undergone training on Beautician course conducted by Mulanthuruthy Block Panchayat. She got additional experience as a trainee by joining various parlours in city. This trainings and experiences got confidence in her for opening a new Beauty Parlour in her village. For fullfilling her dream, fianancial assistance was needed. In this connection she approached the concerned VEO and through the SGSY scheme received financial assistance of Rs.25000/- in which subsidy is Rs.10000/- from Service Co-operative Bank, Keechery.
She opened a new Beauty Parlour near Aranankav, south end of Ernakulam District. Beauty Parlour and health clubs for ladies is a common sight even in small towns of Kerala. But here in the beginning, it was very difficult to get customers. The villagers dare to approach this Parlour, as they were not ready to spare their time and money in this connection. Also they are not concious about their beauty. Gradualy fear and suspect from the villegers disappeared and they were ready to co-operate with its functioning.
The additional earnings from this Parlour was a great boon to her family and relief in emergency situations like hospitalisation of her husband. In off-season, she is getting extra incomes from side activities like sari printing and embroidery work. This additional income helps her to provide proper education to her children. Now the parlour is working in its full swing. An average income of Rs.5000/- is getting from her parlour after deducting all expenses. She is also very happy to appoint two trainees in her shop and planing to open another beauty parlour, annex to this parlour near by village.
Her success may also give inspiration to the people and may prepare young people to take up the role and responsibility to give desired share for the prosperity of the nation.
