AISWARYA HOTEL & CATERING SERVICE, VENGOLA, VAZHAKULAM BLOCK

AN EXAMPLE OF WOMEN’S PROGRESS
The AISWARYA SHG at Vengola Grama Panchayath consists of ten women members who belong to families below poverty line. The group was formed and its activity started on 27th October in the year 2000 by opening an SB Account in the Union Bank Of India at Arackapady. The group deposited their savings and other contribution from the members in to this account. The group decided to collect voluntary savings at weekly intervals as decided by its members. After completing six months, the group has qualified in the first grading process which enables them to receive Rs. 25,000/- as Revolving Fund. The group utilized the Revolving Fund to start lease land cultivation and production of food materials. The micro credit which leads to more profit and the group purchased 3 cents of land as their fixed assets.
The group showed more courage and attention to improve their present status of living. Then the group has successfully passed the second grading and have availed Rs. 1,63,000/- as loan from UBI Arackapady and a subsidy of Rs. 87,000/- under SGSY . With this amount they started a Hotel and Catering service in a rented building of Vengola Grama Panchayath. The panchayath charged only a nominal rent for its building. The repayment of loan is prompt and regular, and after monthly repayment, each members get Rs. 100/- daily as wages. Now the Corpus Fund of the group comes upto Rs. 25000/-.
On evaluating the functions of the group, it is seen that they have a lot of achievements to be shown. Presetly the group is capable of catering to the nearby villages in various functions.
