On 7.2.2001 a Self Help Group was formed by some women of 10 families of equal status in central sector of Gothuruth in Chendamangalam Grama Panchayat and named as Chaithanya SHG. Concerned V.E.O and the Official of the Block Development Office , North Paravur had given necessary guidance in forming and functioning of this group. Account has been opened and Started deposits in Service Co-operative Bank, Chendamangalam.
After Ist grading the unit received Rs.25,000/- as Revolving Fund ( Rs.10,000/- Subsidy and Rs.15,000/- as Bank Loan) with this amount sales of provision items, edible etc. are conducted. After 2nd grading to make more income applied for a loan for a project of making brooms of coconut fiber and received Rs.2,50,000 ( Rs.1,50,000/- as loan and 1,00,000/- as subsidy) on 23.11.2004.
The unit members learn to make brooms . Coconut fiber taken from decayed shells after that, colouring and drying this fiber. By using the paste they make the shapes of brooms.
This broom is attractive than the grass broom of other states and very useful to sweep out dust.
These brooms sales in houses, shops, festivals and melas. 1.5 cent land has ben purchased to build their own shed. The SHG is progressing in a desire of carrying better income on better development of sales.
